Lewis Hamilton's second place in the United States Grand Prix meant he closed the gap on Sergio Perez for the battle for P2. However, he was later disqualified, meaning he lost the points, and Perez moved up to P4 in the full results. Perez is under pressure to keep hold of his P2 spot to ensure Red Bull manage a feat they've never done before.
Despite two periods of dominance, Red Bull have never finished 1st and 2nd in the World Championship. Hamilton is now 39 points behind Perez with four races remaining, plus a sprint. Perez's late overtake on Charles Leclerc, Hamilton's DSQ and DNF in the last two races could well prove to be very important.
Fernando Alonso's retirement from the US GP pretty much ended his hopes for P2 in the World Championship. It's now a tall order for the Aston Martin driver in a car that doesn't seem to be improving.
