Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has used a unique 'cooking' analogy to describe the closeness of the Formula 1 field in 2025. The Frenchman believes that you need to put 'all the ingredients' together as a team to succeed when the field is as tight as it is.

Ferrari haven't started the 2025 season on the front foot and sit fourth in the constructors after four rounds on 57 points. The Italian team are already 94 points behind championship leaders Mclaren. Still, there is a lot of season left, and Vasseur is optimistic that Ferrari can bounce back.

Vasseur: 'Now it's like cooking'

Winning races? He's not sure. But he's certain that Ferrari can still challenge if the whole team works in harmony. "Ingredients are all there, but now it's like cooking and you have to put the ingredients together at the right stage," Vasseur began in the team principal press conference in Jeddah.

"Honestly, I don't have the feeling that we expect the best from the car so far, or perhaps on some occasions, on some sessions. I would say that it's true for us, but it's true also for the others. Even McLaren, with the step that they have compared to the rest of the grid. Sometimes you have one of their car which is twirling a bit more.

"But a couple of years ago you were able to go to Q1 with a set of medium and you did one lap and you were in Q2. Today, even the top teams, we have to put sometimes two sets of soft."

As the Formula 1 grid continues to closen up, it makes it harder for top teams to operate at perfect level 100% of the time. After all, Pierre Gasly and Alpine topped FP1 in Jeddah.

Vasseur comments on the closeness of Formula 1's field

"It means that again the field is very, very tight and each time that you are doing a mistake you can lose five, six positions and then the conclusion from the outside is that it's a drama. We are more focused on pure performance and it's not a drama.

"It means that we need to stay calm into the analysis if we want to improve. I think it was one of the skills of the team last year to be able to capitalise and I hope that we'll have the same path this year," the Ferrari team principal concluded.
