Former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel is full of priase for advisor Helmut Marko and all he has done for the Austrian team, but also talks about a "different direction" that the team will need to take when the 81-year-old will leave the paddock for good. Marko recently mentioned he believes Vettel is the right person to succeed him as an advisor at Red Bull after the German retired from racing in 2022.
Vettel appreciates the compliment, but he emphasises that there's only one Dr. Helmut Marko. The Austrian also recently confirmed he's considering leaving Red Bull, leading him to comment on Vettel's potential to replace him, which would be his ideal replacement.

Vettel knows Red Bull advisor role is only for Marko
Speaking on Sky Sports Germany's Boxengasse Podcast, Vettel was confronted with these words: "I think there's only one Helmut. That's Helmut's role.
"Yes, I think the challenge is quite inspiring overall, and of course, the experiences Helmut and I have in certain respects are similar. He also grew up in motorsport, in a totally different era, but essentially, the wheel still turns the same way.
"It's still about the same thing as it was, I don't know how long ago, even though the formula has significantly changed since then."
Vettel then emphasises that there are still many things that can be passed on from one person to another. In this case, from Marko to Vettel: "Whether this will still be the case in the future remains to be seen."
Marko's unique position at the Austrian team
The four-time World Champion still maintains a lot of contact with the team advisor and asked him years ago how long he intended to continue. Although Marko then emphasised he did not plan to continue for much longer, he still appears in the paddock.
Vettel stresses that he hopes Marko remains in this position for as long as possible, provided the Austrian feels good enough for it: "I think he has a unique role, especially considering his experience and team dynamics; he knows it best."
"It's always difficult to judge from the outside," continued the German. "You might sometimes wonder: how did this come to be, what's all this about? But of course, he has a completely different approach and different experiences."
Vettel, who took four consectuvie titles, just as Max Verstappen did, then went on to say that Marko's departure would be regrettable, but it may be one that
could see a change at the Austrian team:
"But then, one must also start to develop in a new, different direction."This article was written in collaboration with Kimberley Hoefnagel
