There seems to be no week that passes without rumors circulating about the future of Jack Doohan at Alpine. Just as he did a week earlier, Ralf Schumacher has again fueled this, hinting that the Australian would be replaced by Franco Colapinto in Bahrain this weekend. GPblog has learned from very reliable sources that Schumacher's assumption is incorrect.
The Alpine team is currently on its way to Bahrain, where the fourth Grand Prix of the Formula One World Championship will take place. With Doohan, and no reason to believe that will change in the coming days. Any stories claiming otherwise are dismissed as rumors and speculation.
Ralf Schumacher is fueling Doohan related rumours. The former F1 driver and current analyst said last weekend on the German branch of Sky Sports: "He makes a lot of mistakes and is not fast enough. Hirakawa, who took part in the first free practice, was immediately as fast as Gasly. Then, later in the day, Doohan got in and made a fatal mistake. The team will investigate this, but at this point, he is simply overwhelmed by the situation."
As a result, the German concluded: "They will talk to him and I am curious what will happen next. But it is not certain that he will be there for the next race [in Bahrain]."
Regarding that last statement, GPblog can report; Doohan is 'just' there in Bahrain, again as a teammate of Pierre Gasly.
