In 2026, Cadillac will become the 11th grid on the Formula 1 grid. There are no drivers confirmed yet, but former driver Juan Pablo Montoya already sees who the Americans will sign. The American team received official confirmation of their entry earlier this year, and they will become power unit manufacturers in the 2029 season. Until then, the team will use Ferrari engines.
In terms of the drivers, Montoya has a clear understanding of who they will choose.
"I think Sergio Perez would be a great fit for Cadillac," he began to a betting site.
The second driver will be another who would return to the grid after a season of absence. "I bet you money the next guy might be Zhou Guanyu. They would be a perfect fit. Guanyu is the Ferrari reserve. So, he’ll be driving, developing and working. He’ll know everything about Ferrari, and they’re going with a Ferrari engine."
The Chinese driver is currently a reserve driver for the Scuderia after his departure from Sauber.
Could Colton Herta join from IndyCar?
Already competing in IndyCar for Andretti Global, Colton Herta is frequently linked with heading over to F1 with Cadillac.
Montoya himself first competed in the United States in the CART series and winning that title before making his F1 Grand Prix debut. However, he does not see the American driver doing the same.
"People say Cadillac should get an American. I think it would be crazy if Colton Herta decided to come to F1. I don’t think it would be as easy as he thinks. The shock alone of moving to Europe and a different culture would be so big that I think it would screw with his head. If he did do it, the chances of surviving and prospering in it would be very slim," he concluded.
