Lewis Hamilton has said it is "a real honour" to be on the cover of the legendary Met issue of Vogue magazine, cementing his place as one of the biggest fashion icons in the world.

The 40-year-old has been a symbol for fashion and the American company for many years, and now, the Brit is a co-chair of the iconic Met Gala, which takes place in New York.

After first being invited to the fashion event in 2015, the seven-time world champion became a co-chair of the event in 2021, and he will attend ten years after his first invitation.

Hamilton is one of four people to be on the cover for the Met issue, with actor Colman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky and singer Pharrell Williams all joining the Brit on the front over, with Vogue's editor Anna Wintour also alongside the four of them to support the theme of ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ at the event in May.

Hamilton speaks on the "privilege" of being at the Met Gala

"I’m really proud," Hamilton stated in an interview with Vogue. "The moment is going to be huge. I think this Met Gala sends a really strong message that we must continue to celebrate and elevate Black history.

"I remember watching Pharrell as a kid and thinking, 'He’s so stylish and cool.' It’s surreal for me to now be co-chairing with him," continued the Brit.

Hamilton also spoke about the early stages of his F1 career when he was ot as open with his fashion as he now is in the paddock.

"When I first signed with F1, I was only allowed to wear suits and team kits, and it was horrible. I didn’t feel comfortable, and I didn’t feel like I was able to be myself.

"Eventually, I had the courage to push beyond those boundaries and say, 'Look, I want to turn up to the track in what I want to wear. I’m here now—you can’t get rid of me or change the way I dress.' The pushback was massive, but when the sport saw the impact of my little runway, other drivers started doing the same thing," continued the seven-time world champion.
