Haas have already set a new record for their highest points tally in Formula One this season, but team boss Gunther Steiner does not want to stop there. He is aiming for 100 points as the team look to cement a place in the top five in the Constructors’ Championship.
The American team currently sit in fifth position, seven ahead of Force India and 16 behind Renault.
Haas could easily have scored more points this campaign if it wasn’t for silly mistakes and the wretched early season form of Romain Grosjean.
For example, in Australia, the team was running fourth and fifth before two pit stop errors forced both cars into retirement, losing a potential haul of 22 points, which would see them clear in fourth place in the constructors’ standings.
A positive for Haas is that Grosjean’s form seems to have returned, and coupled with Magnussen’s pace, they should be able to achieve the 34 points required in the final nine races to reach the 100-point mark.
Steiner said: “We need to gain the points which we lost in the first half of the season. That’s our mission – to have the best results at the end of the season.
“I think the 100-point barrier should be and will be broken, but still you have to get them. If you want to finish fourth or fifth, you have to break it.
“I don’t see why we shouldn’t keep performing like we were before the summer break.
“The good thing is that everybody can have a break. Everybody was tired, and now we come back refreshed and, hopefully, continue like we did before the break.”
