Ferrari did not have the best of starts in the 2025 season. The team's former President, Luca di Montezemolo, believes the Scuderia are 'lacking leadership' at the moment.
Former Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo returned to the paddock in Bahrain. The Italian also shared his thoughts about Ferrari to RAI, the Italian public broadcaster.
While the Italian explained he missed being in the paddock, he explained that he is not happy with the Scuderia at the moment. "Coming back is a thrill because ten years is a long time, and then because I hope to bring luck to Ferrari, which really needs it right now."
"How do I feel as a fan? Sad because I see a team without a soul. Ferrari is passion, Ferrari is working day and night, Ferrari is never giving up. And I'm also a little angry because I was hoping at least this year to see a truly competitive car from the start," he explained.
Entering the 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton began a new chapter in his career with Ferrari. The former President sees that the current Ferrari car is making the Briton adapting slower.
"Hamilton is a great guy, he was part of the history of Formula 1. He knows he has his last chance, he came to Ferrari to win, to end his career at Ferrari. Adapting to a new way of working is difficult, the problem is having a car that is capable of aiming for the world championship. After so many years, we need to have a winning car."
Di Montezemolo also underlined he still sees Ferrari having issues in Bahrain, even after introducing an update package. “If Ferrari had solved those problems of balance and competitiveness in Bahrain, I would be more optimistic for the future. Today, I am less so," he concluded.
While Charles Leclerc finished in P3, he gained a further place on the grid after George Russell received a one-place grid penalty for not following the race director's instructions in Q2. Lewis Hamilton will start from P9 on Sunday.
