Andrea Kimi Antonelli is currently working on finding his feet in the most competitive racing series in the world: F1. Building on the progress made, he also sees that improvements in this key area may change the outlook of his future races.
Antonelli, in five races has managed to get on top of one of the most difficult aspects in F1 racing: the Pirelli tyres. So now he turns his focus to the next item on an F1 rookie's to-do list.
"I think tyre management is getting better and better, but still need to review. Also, I think now I need to see again in qualifying what to do best in order to put everything together because, again, yesterday, with a mistake, it was not optimal and probably could have started further up," said the Italian rookie to media like GPblog, after the F1 race in Jeddah.
"Of course, we don't know because I did a mistake, but definitely need to see what I can do in order to be consistent and being able to put [it] all together."
It's been a notable aspect, with the field being so close together, how important qualifying as high as possible has become.
Antonelli then emphasises how his quest for the fastest possible lap time, then results in mistakes, which he is naturally looking to erradicate. If he does, then a different outlook in terms of possibilites opens up for the young Italian.
"Of course, at the same time, every weekend, I'm trying to push more and more to the limit. And sometimes I go a little bit too far in some places so now it's time just to have a look and next time I put [it] all together and then obviously if I start further up in the race then it can also be a different race."
