Fernando Alonso has shown his qualities on numerous occasions since his return to Formula 1. The Hungarian Grand Prix is the most recurring event when discussing the Spaniard's season. He himself is also proud of that moment.
While his teammate Esteban Ocon was out in front in Hungary, Lewis Hamilton was overtaking more and more drivers. Alonso, who was in fourth place, put a stop to this and kept the Briton behind for a long time. As a result, Hamilton was unable to get past Ocon in the closing stages of the race, allowing Alpine to celebrate a victory.
For Alonso, it was a perfect time to work on team building. "I was happy because it was good for the morale of the team to celebrate a win," he told Auto, Motor und Sport. "We proved to ourselves that if we have the package, we are ready to race at the front."
The Spanish driver knows what he is there for at Alpine. "My role is more to motivate everyone. And to use my experience to point out areas where we can improve. Our job at the track is to build a team that can win a world championship."
