Used parts for the F1 drivers | Where are the grid penalties?

The 2023 Formula 1 season is entering its final phase and it shows how the drivers stand with their used engine and gearbox parts. Just about all drivers are already at the maximum number of parts allowed. However, there are still six Grand Prix weekends to go in 2023, so grid penalties are really coming into view.

Lando Norris furthest away from punishment

Lando Norris is the only driver not yet at the maximum number of parts allowed in 2023. The McLaren driver can still be fitted with a new turbocharger (TC), MGU-H and MGU-K without penalty. Furthermore, all other F1 drivers will therefore face a grid penalty when using a new engine part, apart from the exhaust.

Gearbox poses fewer problems

Unlike engine parts, gearbox parts pose less of a problem for most drivers. For example, a number of drivers have only used three of the four gearbox parts. Nevertheless, the majority of drivers are already at or over the maximum number of four parts. Max Verstappen, among others, also picked up a grid penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix for using a fifth part of his gearbox.
