Max Verstappen had a fantastic qualifying session at the Suzuka circuit. The Dutchman reportedly had some issues with his RB21, but managed to surprise everyone by securing pole position for the race this coming Sunday.

Although McLaren were favourites for pole prior to the qualifying session, it was Verstappen who ultimately clinched it."YESSS! Incredible, this is a huge highlight for us here." Afterward, the Dutchman received praise from Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko and compliments from Fernando Alonso.

Four different drivers on pole in 2025

The Formula 1 season of 2025 is only three race weekends in, but we've already had four different pole sitters. Lando Norris for the season opener in Australia, Lewis Hamilton for the sprint race in China, and Oscar Piastri for the Grand Prix in Shanghai.

The question now is: will Verstappen be the fourth winner this season? Looking at the statistics, it looks very promising for him. So far, all races - including the sprint- in 2025 have been won by the driver starting from pole.
