Former Red Bull Racing mechanic Calum Nicholas has received several messages about the Austrian F1 team's slow pit stops this year, and he is done with it.
Since this season, Nicholas is no longer a mechanic for Red Bull Racing, whereas previously, he'd played a key role in the team's lighting quick pit stops, helping earn the Red Bull pitcrew the title for fastest pit stop of the year several times.
Fans massively sent messages to the Brit that the pit stops are not the same since he left. On his Instagram, Nicholas responded: "I've had enough, it must stop. So let's talk about it."
He continued: "For the last seven years, Red Bull Racing have set the standard for pit stop performance. Winning seven consecutive DHL Pit Stop Awards, we've been the benchmark for performance in the pit lane. And let's be honest, it's not even close. As such, my office is filled with these lovely little plaques."
"Now, let's be honest, in all those years of winning, we've always had slow stops in those seasons. They're gonna happen. You're gonna do about 100 live pit stops a year. So the idea that every single one of them is going to be perfect is a little bit of a ridiculous standard to set yourself. Obviously that's always the target but it's not a reality."
According to Nicholas, a less than four seconds bad pit stop is actually a sign of a good pit crew, potentially defending Red Bull Racing's pitcrew.
