Jose Maria Marti won the F2 Bahrain Sprint race for Campos Racing. The Red Bull Racing junior led MP Motorsport's Richard Verschoor and AIX Racing's Joshua Durksen at the flag.

As it happened

AIX racing driver, Joshua Durksen got off to a good start, keeping Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic behind in P2. Mexican driver for Van Amersfoort, Rafael Villagomez, stayed in P3.

Victor Martins had absolutely no luck as he was pushed out wide by Alex Dunne, leaving the Frenchman with no space on the outside going into Turn 1, causing him to run over one of the advertisements on the side of the track leaving leads of debris scattered all over the track.

Sebastian Montoya spun coming out of turn 8 fighting closely with Amaury Cordeel, stalling his car, thus being forced to abandon the race. Max Esterson, had to box in the Trident garage to perform a front wing change.

The incident between Dunne and Martins was noted by the Stewards, as Spanish driver, Pepe Marti was reminded by his team from that the Irishman was very aggressive 'and fights'.

At the end of lap 4 the Safety Car came back into the pits, and Durksen again had a formidable restart leaving his pursuers behind.

Dunne attempted to go up the inside of Richard Verschoor which proved to be unsuccessful, and allowed Marti to close up and join the fray. Now the Irishman was in the clutches of the Spaniard.

Marti had to go off the circuit, albeit marginally, to overtake Dunne, due to the Irishman's relentless defensive approach.

The Stewards then decided to investigate the incident between Cordeel and Montoya, which prompted the retirement of the Colombian driver from the race. The Belgian junior received a 10 second time penalty for the incident.

Marti's overtake of Dunne was then investigated by the race officials, which triggered Campos Racing driver to return the P5 to Dunne, which in turn saw the Spaniard come under attack from Williams Junior, Luke Browning.

Dutchman Richard Verschoor was then attacking Villagomez relentlessly for P3, with the battle going from turn 1 all the way to turn 6, where the MP Motorsport driver was able to get the run on the Mexican Van Amersfoort racer.

At the top, Beganovic was threatening Durksen's lead on lap 11. Attacking into Turn 1, the move was completed by the Swedish Bosnian driver into Turn 4 as the Paraguayan failed to cover the inside leaving the door open for the Hitech driver to take the lead.

Durksen then sent a message to his team saying he was managing his tyres, and Beganovic was pushing too hard, "I'll get him at the end," closed the Paraguayan confidently.

Villagomez' race was coming undone as his tyres were degrading heavily. After losing P3 to Verschoor, he also lost P4 to Dunne.

Sim racer turned real life driver was finding the reality of motorsport to be much harsher than the virtual side of it as the American driver couldn't finish the second consecutive race.

His stricken car, facing the wrong way, stalled just outside of turn 8 prompted the Safety Car which also triggered an unexpected round of pitstops.

The race resumed to heavy action. Durksen gained back the lead from Beganovic the next lap into turn 1, as behind them a battle ensued, with Verschoor, Dunne, Villagomez, Browning and Marti all locked in a heated fight for P3.

The Dutchman emerged victorious, with Marti behind in P4, and Dunne and Browning colliding going into Turn 6. On the following lap, Browning overtook Dunne, and as the Irishman attempted an opportunistic maneuver into 8, Arvid Lindblad took over P7 from Dunne.

A strong recovery driver from the Red Bull junior, who'd started from P7.

At the front, Durksen was holding on from the relentless attacks by Beganovic, which also brought Verschoor and Marti into contention for the win.

In two corners Beganovic went from attacking the leader Durksen, to falling to P4 first with a daring maneuver by Verschoor going up on the inside of Turn 8, and later with Marti overtaking both drivers to take P2 into Turns 9 and 10.

Marti then, on the final lap, took over from Durksen and led after Turn 2. The Paraguayan couldn't hold the lead, nor the P2 as Verschoor overtook him on the outside of Turn 12.
